Fourth Observation

Visiting my microaqaurim was interesting today. I saw an organism that I could see move with my naked eye while I was observing the outside of the aquarium. I quickly placed it under the microscope and I saw it. It was huge. Haha. I'm not sure what it was; I will see if I can find it again next time. Or if there are more of them.
There were two more organisms I identifed. I will be posting pictures of them.
 Forest, 1954 Figure 519
Gastrotrichs are small, most commonly 0.1 - 0.5mm,  transparent creatures. Their body is consisted of cilia which covers the creature's underside, enabling it to glide smoothly over plant and other surfaces. They feed on living and dead organic matter.
Peridinium is a dinoflagellate with thick, armored plates that are often lobed and ornamented.

Thrid Observation

I recently checked on my microaquarium and there is an increase in organisms. The ones i have identified before and new organisms. I can see organisms clearly moving around in the 4x zoom, there is a ton of them too.
There has been an increasing amount of rodifers. i obsreved how they move around the microaqaurium and its pretty cool. Some of them roll around. There were some Litonotus present. They are flattened predatory or scaveging cillars. I located them in Free Living Protoza by D.J. Patterson.

Second Obseration of MicroAquarium

On October 20 I spent three and a half hours at the lab.. I don't plan on spending that much time today, but it was very interesting and I enjoyed it.
When I first put my microaquarium together I did not see any organisms yet. This time it was crwing with them.. I was really excited. I took some pictures and used photoshop to edit them. Cant believe that took three hours to do and I can sum it up in three sentences.
Smith, 2001 Figure 7.2
Smith, 2001 Figure 7.31 KBoth of these are rotifers. I identified these with the help of doctor McFarland.
Rotifers are mostly freshwater micro organisms. They average length is about 0.1-0.5 mm long. These here are free swimming rotifers.

Setting up aquarium/ 1st obsevation

In botany lab we set up our microaqauriums. The classification/ identifcation color ocded dots I used are dark blue, yellow and red.
Out of the water samples for the aquarium I chose number 6 which is from Spring Creek off Woodson Dr running through Dean's Woods Road frontage., Knox Co. Tennessee. It offers partial shade exposure.  I used the Fissidens fontanus moss found in the stream and the Utricularia gibba L. A flowering plant from Spain Lake and was grown in the Hesler water tanks.
IN my first observation I didn't see any organism yet!
